Thank you for your commitment to play volleyball with the Rebels Junior Olympic Volleyball Club 2009-10 season! As a player & parent in our club, we want to offer you as much information on the season as possible. Mission Statement The Rebels Junior Olympic Volleyball Program is dedicated to enhancing the development, education and participation of female athletes ages 17 and under in the sport of volleyball. The Rebels are a member of the United States of America Volleyball (U.S.A.V) program and participate in North Country Region (NCR). The Rebels will provide a supportive environment for coaches to teach players the fundamental skills and to introduce advanced skills at the appropriate level. We strive to have excellence throughout our program, where athletes are continually challenged. We promote a competitive atmosphere where players will develop personal skills and teamwork. Through hard-work, self-discipline, teamwork and leadership, players will have the opportunity to grow on and off the volleyball court. The Coaches All coaches in the program sign and follow a code of ethics, set by U.S.A.V. standards. Coaches are ultimately responsible for the building of a team from a group of individuals. Coaches are provided with information related to coaching development, sports injuries and health issues through the mandatory Impact Clinic certification course. Many of the coaches in the program have played in the Rebels VB Program, and other coaches have been recommended and recruited to join our coaching staff from other organizations. Practices (Click Teams for Schedules) All age levels will practice 2 nights per week. Practices will range from 1.5-2 hours. Practice will begin the last week of November for all teams. Practices will be held at Jackson Middle School and Oxbow Creek Elementary. Occasionally practices will be held with other teams in our program to simulate game-like situations. It is mandatory that all players attend every practice. We try to accommodate the schedule of coaches and players, but realize conflicts may occur. The only excused absences will be if a player is sick or for church activities, but the player must inform the coach prior to the start of practice. Unexcused absences are not tolerated. If a player has an unexcused absence, that player will not be allowed to start the following game whether it’s a league date or tournament. It is at the coach’s discretion to set a reasonable penalty depending on the circumstances. League & Tournaments Each Rebels team will be registered in either the Twin Cities Elite Volleyball League or Ralia Power League at the coach’s discretion. The play-dates and tournaments will begin early January and will be completed by the end of March or early April. All Rebels teams will be registered in the Presidents Day Festival, which is a 2-day tournament and will count as 2 dates. Ages 13-17s will play in a total of 10 dates and the 12 & under team will play in a total of 9. Teams are allowed to participate in additional tournaments at additional costs to cover tournament fees, coach’s fee and additional gym time if needed. Playing time will be as equal as possible in league dates and tournaments; with the exception during tournaments, coaches will make the lineups at their discretion keeping a competitive focus. During tournaments, playing time isn’t guaranteed to be equal, however, it is always a goal to provide equal time if possible. Uniforms/Equipment Each player will purchase one complete uniform each year, the cost of which is included in the season payment. The uniform consists of one team jersey and one pair of shorts. Libero shirts will be provided, one per team. Each player will also need to purchase a quality indoor volleyball to bring to every practice and play date. Please, no outdoor volleyballs. Optional additional clothing such as warm-ups, sweatshirts or long/short sleeved t-shirts will be offered each year by the club for additional costs; selection will vary each year. Fees for 2009-10 season 12 & under is $535 ($300 due at tryouts) 13-17s teams is $635 ($400 due at tryouts) A post-dated check for 1/25/10 will be written on the night of the club meeting for $235 to cover the remaining club expenses. The check written at tryouts will be voided for any player who does not make a team. Each fee is based on 9 or 10 players per team. This does not include the cost of a quality indoor volleyball, which every player must have (typical cost is $30) or the tryout fee of $25 per player. The fee covers: Uniforms, League Fees, Gym Time, Tournament Costs, Certification for Refereeing, NCR Membership Fees, Team Equipment, Administrative Costs, Coaches Fees and First-Aid Supplies. The club fee will be paid in 2 payments. Officiating Clinic All players and coaches are required to attend an officiating clinic annually. It is at the coach’s discretion to choose an officiating clinic in the area for their team. Fundraising Parents may volunteer to coordinate fundraising activities for the club, which will be decided upon at the club meeting on Monday, Nov 23. Fundraising varies year to year; it depends on parent volunteers. All fundraising is completely voluntary. All money earned will be distributed between players who participate. Some options for this season include Tupperware and The Chip Shoppe. Brochures will be available at the club meeting. If you have any suggestions, please bring the information to the club meeting.
